Day 12 - Christmas Eve - of the 12 Adoptable Pets of the Holiday Season - Ernesto, the Annex Cat Rescue!

12/24/2019

ADOPTED!!!

Ernesto is a retired tomcat and a big softy at heart. He was found on the street in winter 2019 with infections in his eyes, ears and gums. After being treated, neutered and having all of his teeth removed, he began a new chapter in his foster home

For weeks, Ernesto only felt safe when hidden under the bed. He allowed his foster mom to gently scratch his head under the bed, but he only came out to eat and use the litterbox when nobody was around.

Over the course of many weeks, he slowly began to trust his foster mom. He now loves being petted and brushed, especially on the head and behind his puffy cheeks, and he purrs softly. His tail is something to behold: when he's happy, it spins around in huge circles and knocks down everything in its path!

Currently, Ernesto is not a lap cat. He chooses to stay on the floor while being petted, and he does not like being picked up. When not being petted, Ernesto loves to snooze, attack his catnip toys and watch keenly out the window.

Ernesto is extremely observant and alert to sounds, smells and movements. He has become quite curious and enjoys exploring all the nooks and crannies in his foster home!

Ernesto LOVES to eat. He will sing you a symphony of meows to remind you that it's mealtime, and given the chance, he will devour everything in sight!

Check out Ernesto's Instagram account to hear him meow and to watch him cuddle and play! Find it at:

https://www.instagram.com/ernesto_de_la_calle/

Ernesto is FIV+ and has ongoing symptoms that are typical of feline herpes (a cat "cold"), specifically: clear discharge from his left eye and occasional sneezing. He is currently taking L-lysine powder, mixed in with his food twice daily, to help with the feline herpes.

Ernesto would prefer a quiet home with no dogs or kids. If introduced over time in a way that allows him to feel safe, his foster mom believes that he could eventually bond with one other calm, non-aggressive cat.

Ernesto will likely need to hide for several weeks in his new home and it may take time before he feels safe enough to interact with you. But if you are patient and allow him to take things at his own pace, you will be rewarded when his soulful and affectionate nature begins to shine through.

Ernesto is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations.

Day 11 of the 12 Adoptable Pets of the Holiday Season - Pumpkin, the Toronto Humane Society!

12/23/2019

ADOPTED!

Pumpkin has been diagnosed with FLUTD, which stands for urinary tract disease. This ailment can be managed by feeding Pumpkin a special diet, and making sure he stays hydrated in the home. Pumpkin is a very curious boy who does not want to miss anything. When the staff and volunteers visit with him, he will immediately come up onto your lap for that special cuddle time.

Just like any cat moving into a new home, Pumpkin would feel most comfortable staying in one room of his new home first, so he can decide when he is ready to explore the new territory at large. Come and ask about Pumpkin at the Feline Adoption Desk.

Day 8 of the 12 Adoptable Pets of the Holiday Season - Anne, the Annex Cat Rescue

12/20/2019

ADOPTED!

Annie is a rescued tuxedo female kitty. She was skin and bones when her foster mom found her outside. Annie was so friendly and affectionate that her foster mom felt she was an ideal pet for adoption. She loves to sit on your lap, lie at your feet, follow you around the house and talk to you.

Annie uses the litter pan nicely and is familiar with a scratch mat. She is extremely intelligent, likes to explore, likes to drink from the bath tub faucet, likes to play with her toy mouse and likes to watch her foster mom wash the dishes.

When Annie first arrived, though friendly, she was a little unsure about being indoors and occasionally would swat and nip at her foster mom. Therefore this kitty would do well with an experienced pet owner, preferably a home with one or more adults and no children.

Anne loves people and enjoys being the center of attention. On a recent trip to the vet, she was super friendly and sociable, visiting with the vet techs and vets and making the rounds to visit everyone there. This little gal loves lots of human stimulation and attention.

Valentine is still waiting for her forever family at a pension in Istanbul.
She is approximately 4 years old.
Healthy, spayed and received all vaccines.
Val gets along very well with other dogs!

Day 4 of the 12 Adoptable Pets of the Holiday Season - Sweetie, the Annex Cat Rescue

12/16/2019

Sweetie is true to his name, a real sweet guy with the most soft, thick fur.

Blessed with a gentle, high meow he will be happy to let you know when it's time to eat. While still a bit shy, he is very comfortable in his foster home. Having discovered the joys of scratching posts and cat nip, Sweetie spends most of his time lounging on his post, but will bust out the kitten-ish highjinks when a cat nip toy is tossed his way.

He will hiss occasionally but it's just to let you know he's here. Sweetie has tested positive for Feline Leukaemia but his health is currently excellent, having had much needed dental work very recently.

Sweetie is a charming fellow who will make someone very happy!
