Annex Cat Rescue kitty, Carl, is the adoptable pet of Day 7! Handsome Carl is very silly and playful. He likes to run around the house zooming from room to room or chasing his tail (it is very funny and cute). Every morning he demands attention and love from his foster parents, for his morning cheek pets. He is very food motivated and has perfect litter box habits. Carl came from a tough living situation on the streets in a cat colony, and as a result has some anxiety around humans. He has come a very long way with his foster parents and now enjoys head scratches, and back pets. Carl is generally healthy, he recently had a small infection and is taking lysine supplement to help him recover. (This is a very common infection in street cats). He does not like being picked up and can at times give you a little swat if he gets scared. Carl is a very sweet boy, but he can swat (sometimes with claws). He needs an adopter who is patient and who has experience reading a cat's body language. Ideally his new adopter will have had previous experience with street cats and will give him some time to adapt to a new home. Carl requires a home with another resident cat. He came from a colony and is very social with other cats, grooms them and likes to play. Check out his Instragram for some videos! We're back the the Toronto Humane Society...our pet of Day 5 is a senior cat named Salem! From Salem's THS Adoption Page: Salem is casting out his love spell and hoping to find his cosmic connection. Salem is a shy but loving cat. He is in his senior years and he would be an ideal match for anyone who is looking for an easy going pet to keep them company. Salem is a sweet cat, and he will need someone who can go slow and build a trusting relationship with him. Salem has feline diabetes, and will need someone he loves to help him do his insulin checks. He doesn't love having to do these, but he knows that it's a part of getting older. Knowing he's in the good hands of someone who makes him feel safe and loved will make this process a lot easier for him. We're happy to provide you with all the information and help needed to support Salem, and with the right medicine and care, he will be a happy and healthy guy! Salem has a magical personality and he is looking for a quiet and peaceful forever home, where he can relax and take it easy. Anyone who is looking for a laid back companion has found their guy. **If you are interested in adopting this cat, please fill out our fast track adoption questionnaire by copying and pasting the link below. And now, on to the Annex Cat Rescue! Meet Carol... Meet Carol! At 2 years old she is the matriarch of many ACR cats who have also had kittens of their own (including Dora the famous kitten who was born without a butthole). Carol loves other cats and could be adopted into a home with a friendly buddy cat or as a single cat. Carol enjoys coming up to you to get pets but is still shy when you approach her for pets. Carol would do best in a quiet home. Carol has perfect litter box habits, and a good appetite. As with most former street cats, it is important that she initially stays in a small sanctuary room as she adjusts to her new environment and people. Today's 2nd Adoptable Pet is Gumaro, a wonderful pup from the Toronto Humane Society! From Gumaro's page on the THS website: Gumaro comes with 4 free training sessions! Gumaro is a silly bean of a pup with enough pep for everyone in the crew and then some. He's a grip it and rip it type who's very into chasing waves, crankin tunes, and racing you to that post over there. This here's a wild care of a guy looking for a fun pack of dudes and/or dudettes to wild out with some treats and then (secretly) snuggle at the end of the day. Back in Mexico, Gumaro developed a reputation for being the silliest sweetie on the block. He's brought that crazy energy level with him to this cold place they call Canada. He's an excitable young dog who, like most homeless pups, hasn't been given the structure he needs to learn manners and foundation skills. But trust us when we say: this boy is willing to learn! Gumaro loves to run and run until he can't run anymore. Unfortunately, upon his arrival to Canada he had injured one of his hind legs, while this was healing, he fractured his other hind leg and had to have surgery for this one to heal. Can you imagine how frustrating this would be for an ants-in-your-pants boy like Gumaro? This guy's got one speed: fast! He needs to be running around in a dog park at the speed of treat. He has since completely recovered from these injuries but the restricted exercise was really tough for him as he didn't have an outlet for his high levels of energy. He couldn't run and play with other people and dogs and that has resulted in some leash reactivity. Gumaro loves greeting other people on his walks. Thing is, you can't always get what you want. Especially when you're on a leash! When he can't say hello to people or other dogs, he can become quite frustrated. Frustrated to the point of barking and even lunging towards whoever he wants to see. This is something we are working on with him and is something he'll need to continue working on in his new home. Unfortunately, due to the location of our shelter and with Gumaro being in and out of foster homes we have not seen much success in his behaviour change. There is too much going on for him and he becomes over stimulated very quickly. He is a very keen boy and will, in the right environment and with the right people, learn super fast. Gumaro came to us as a puppy in July 2019, he hasn't had it easy in his short life but he is determined to find his forever home. The ideal home for Gumaro would be a family with a very active lifestyle. He would love to have a house with a fenced yard so that he can run around and play once his leg is all healed up. He would so best in a home outside of city limits or in a very quiet neighbourhood where his reactivity and exposure to triggers can be properly managed. His ideal humans have experience with high energy breeds while understanding (and being prepared to address) his tendency to jump up and shout when he doesn't get to run around freely. He is in need of some training and people who will be committed to work through his crazy puppy energy in a positive way. He could go home with older children so long as they are calm and considerate of his energetic personality. He would prefer to be the only pet in your home - no other dogs or cats, please! This boy is full of life and love. He's got such a fun personality. He'll never say no to an adventure and will never leave your side once he gets to know you. He is just looking for what he's never been given: structure, routine, and a loving family to help guide him. **If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our fast track adoption questionnaire by copying and pasting the link below. https://forms.office.com/r/NQVdWUSSMs**Think you're the one? Today, we begin the 12 Adoptable Pets of the Holiday Season with something a little bit different. Sara Graham of VANimal Rescue Society and I chat about a dog named Honey currently looking for her forever home, but we also chat about another dog named Rita. VANimal Rescue is working diligently to fundraise so Rita can get the dental work she so desperately needs. For the full scoop and to find out how to donate to this animal in need, watch the interview below. click here to learn more about and donate to the fundraiser for rita's dental surgery From the fundraising page: Rescue dog Rita has come SO far... At this point she needs life-changing dental care and I'm hoping YOU can help make this happen! Her rescue story began in February 2019, when I was managing the Facebook group for Tails of Istanbul and received a message from a tourist - a wonderful person named Camilla - who had discovered a mother and puppies living in horrible conditions in one of Istanbul’s crumbling, abandoned buildings... Any dental disease left untreated can lead to systemic organ issues and disease. The bacteria from the mouth can enter the bloodstream causing other infections in the body. The sooner Rita can have the special dental cleaning and care required, the better. We know she would feel so much better with a clean mouth. She'll finally be able to eat properly and gain weight. On the bright side, we now (finally!) have a dental specialist, Dr. Lorraine Hiscox, at Animal Emergency & Specialty Hospital in Ottawa, who can treat Rita. The problem is the assistance of an anesthesiologist is required. So what wold normally be a dental cleaning with some extractions has quadrupled the cost for Rita's family...to almost $4,000! FIND OUT MORE ON RITA'S GOGETFUNDING PAGE! If you're interested in adopting, or fostering to adopt Honey, you can email directly: montysmuttsdogrescue.sg@gmail.com, or reach out via the vanimal rescue facebook group
